FIELD: electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: known method used for conversion of ac voltage waveform, amplitude, and frequency with intermediate conversion into dc voltage or conversion of dc voltage into arbitrary-waveform, adjustable amplitude and frequency ac voltage involves rectification of low-frequency ac voltage, its filtering, conversion into high-frequency ac voltage, transformation, rectification of high-frequency ac voltage, and its filtering. Novelty is that high- frequency ac voltage is modulated using, for example, pulse-width or amplitude modulation according to signal of desired waveform and high-frequency voltage is rectified with rectified voltage polarity being controlled synchronously with modulating signal. Method may be used for adjustable-speed ac drives such as electric motor drives whose rated voltage differs from standard voltages of commercial supply mains.
