FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is method of continuous preparation of methyl mercaptan by catalytically reacting methanol with hydrogen sulfide in vapor phase at temperatures form 300 to 500 C. As original gas mixture is prepared, energy required for evaporation of methanol is attained due to using heat present in gaseous product that is flowing out of reactor. Reaction heat is used for heating purposes using external gas heater of original gas mixture to reaction temperature. Owing to optimization of process of preparing original gas mixture and better use of reaction heat, the enliven process becomes more efficient as far as investment expenses and current power consumption are concerned.
