FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing methylmercaptopropionaldehyde from gaseous acrolein and methyl mercaptan, characterised by that on one of steps simultaneously (a) from a mixture containing at least one compound from a group comprising hemithioacetal methylmercaptopropionaldehyde, methylmercaptopropionaldehyde and methyl mercaptan, absorbed gaseous acrolein, (b) in acrolein by reacting with methyl mercaptan and/or the hemithioacetal of methylmercaptopropionaldehyde in liquid phase is converted to methylmercaptopropionaldehyde and (c) from said mixture impurities are removed and by-products by distillation at absolute pressure in range of 0.3 to 5 bar and at temperature ranging from 5 to 70 °C, step is performed in absorber-reactor.
EFFECT: obtaining methylmercaptopropionaldehyde from gaseous acrolein and methyl mercaptan.
