ARTILLERY SHELL Russian patent published in 2001 - IPC

Abstract RU 2172926 C1

FIELD: artillery ammunition. SUBSTANCE: the artillery shell has a tail fin in the form of hinge-mounted and radially placed blades with grooves, spring-loaded and fixed by an arrester consisting of a bob-weight, catch and a spring-loaded detent installed in the blade grooves for escape from them. The tail fin blades are laid in the direction opposite the direction of shell flight. The grooves are of the L-shape on the side of the inner edges of the blades so that some of their sections are arranged in parallel with the shell axis between the sections perpendicular to them and the rear ends of the blades. The catch of the arrester is made in the form of a stud with a discontinuous neck rigidly connecting the bob-weight to the detent and passed through the central hole of the bobbin-shaped bush with an annular stop. The sections of the inner edges of the blades positioned between the sections of the grooves perpendicular to the shell axis and the rear ends of the blades are arranged in an annular cavity of the bush. A gap is formed between the weight and the annular stop of the bush providing for weight movement in the direction opposite the direction of shell flight. The damping member is installed in the gap, the distance between the weight and the damping member exceeds the extension of the stud neck required for its break. The spring that loads the detent is installed coaxially with the stud between the bush and detent. The inner cavity of the arrester communicates with the space past the shell through a hole, whose flow section provides for free flow of powder gases in both directions. The weight has rigid radial bosses with a U-shape in cross-section, with the rear ends of the blades installed inside them. EFFECT: simplified construction and enhanced reliability of the shell at an action of pressure of powder gases. 6 dwg
