FIELD: hydraulic engineering; construction of hydroelectric power stations. SUBSTANCE: hydroelectric power station has diversion canal with bottom slope smaller than that of river bottom at station installation site; impulse turbine; bucket-shaped blades fixed over rim of impulse turbine runner; generator; mechanism for reducing runner speed generator speed. Hydroelectric power station has scroll case that functions to convey water current to turbine runner from diversion canal. Man-induced brake mechanism for generator shaft made in the form of controlled fluid coupling is installed in mentioned reducing mechanism. One blade of fluid coupling is fixed on generator shaft, other one is loosely mounted on same shaft and is free to move in axial direction for varying gap between cups of coupling blades to change braking torque on generator shaft from zero to full-speed value. EFFECT: provision for maintaining constant speed and constant torque on runner shaft irrespective of load on generator rotor. 5 dwg
