FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves determining mean percent of brain area injured in three axial slices produced at the level of semioval centers, anterior horns of the lateral ventricles and supracellular cistern, and mean density of the cerebral substance in the lesion zone in the same slices using Howesfield scale. More than 80% of brain area being injured with density drop being less than 14 Howesfield units at the 2-3 week and the injured area being retained at the level of 40% and more to the 6-8 week, very heavy disease course with hard neurological deficiency as outcome is to be predicted. 40-80% of brain area being injured with density drop being about 14- 20 Howesfield units at the 2-3 week and the injured area being retained at the level of 15-40% and more to the 6-8 week, heavy disease course with moderately marked residual neurological symptoms is to be predicted. 40% of brain area being injured with density being greater than 20 Howesfield units at the 2-3 week and the injured area being less than 15% to the 6-8 week, moderate severity disease course with lightly marked residual neurological symptoms or complete convalescence is to be predicted.
