FIELD: metallurgy; obtaining and studying molten alloy samples in conducting laboratory studies of metallurgical processes. SUBSTANCE: device has housing with nonconsumable electrode and flat horizontal electrode located inside said housing. Flat horizontal electrode is located above nonconsumable electrode dividing housing made from high refractory material into working chamber located in upper portion of housing and high-temperature chamber located in lower portion of housing. Substrate of 1-2 mm thick made from high refractory material nonwettable by molten alloy is laid on flat horizontal electrode. Height of upper portion of housing is equal to 10-15 mm. Housing is enclosed in metal casing provided with observation port in its upper portion. EFFECT: possibility of observing metallurgical processes in alloys and processes in metal-to-mold core contact zone. 2 cl, 4 dwg
