FIELD: optics. SUBSTANCE: the polarizing filter has a separator of orthogonal polarizing radiation components, having a saw-tooth profile and made optically transparent, thin of optically matched alternating layers of optically transparent films with different indices of refraction. The separator is positioned on surfaces with a mutually complementing saw-tooth profile. Light-absorbing partitions are positioned under the vertices of the saw-tooth profile near the surface on the inner side normally to it. The saw-tooth separator and the outer surfaces have a clarifying coating. At least one more separator of orthogonal polarizing radiation components with a saw-tooth profile may be used. The alternating layers of optically transparent films may have a different dependence of the index of refraction on the strength of the applied electric field. The filter may be made convex. EFFECT: production of a compact filter with control of its filtering capacity. 4 cl, 5 dwg
