FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: water electrolysis apparatus has an electrolysis cell with pneumatically isolated cavities for hydrogen and oxygen, connected to a power supply unit which is electrically connected to a process parameter control system, as well as a water supply system with a reaction water reserve, having hydrogen and oxygen gas separators, and a cooling system for the hydrogen gas separator, the input hydraulic line of which is fitted with a temperature sensor. After launching the electrolysis cell, the value of electrolysis current is measured and if it is less than a given value, the supply of reaction water is cut, and once it reaches the given current value, the supply of water through the cavity for hydrogen of the electrolysis cell is resumed with a flow rate which ensures constant water temperature at the outlet of said cavity. When current drops, the supply of reaction water into the cavity for oxygen is resumed.
EFFECT: invention increases energy efficiency, operating speed and safety of operation of the water electrolysis apparatus, and also reduces the dependency thereof on secondary sources of energy and ambient conditions.
