FIELD: engine manufacture; internal combustion engines and drive engines using steam or compressed air as working medium. SUBSTANCE: when rotary engine runs as internal combustion engine fuel injection pump is not required to build up high pressure. Rotary engine has two or more rotor sections, shaped rotors mounted on common shaft, separating flap with piston, sleeve with holes for admitting working medium to compression chamber and for discharging exhaust working medium from inactive chamber, as well as for admitting compressed working medium from similar rotor section. Separating flap functions to isolate inactive chamber from active one formed by one side of flap and by rotor ledge. Separating flap and piston have common passages for working medium outlet from inactive chamber and for its discharge under pressure from other active section. When rotary engine operates as internal combustion engine, it is provided with spark plug. Separating flap is in contact with external generating line of rotor all time under action of spring installed in compression chamber of sleeve that acts upon piston crown. Rotary engine running as internal combustion engine does not need fuel injection pump as its functions are performed by sleeves with combustion chambers of adjacent rotor sections. EFFECT: improved design of mechanism for working medium injection in active chamber and exhaust medium discharge from inactive chamber; enhanced efficiency due to reduced loss of working medium in active chamber. 5 cl, 1 dwg
