FIELD: sanitary. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of removing mercury from industrial premises, research laboratories, patient care institutions, secondary schools, infant schools, and apartments. Proposed method consists in applying polysulfide solution onto mercury contaminated surfaces followed by removal of resulting mercury compounds or their deposition. More specifically, one first applies 10- 15% solution of oxyethylenated alcohol (polyethylene glycol monoalkyl ether CnH2n+1O(C2H4O)m where n=16-18 and m= 21) and, after exposition for at least 15 min, applies polysulfide solution, in particular 4-10% calcium polysulfide solution, to which surface is exposed for at least 8 h. Composition "E-2000+" contains, wt %: above-indicated sulfur-containing substance 5- 9, above-indicated ether-type surfactant 10-15, complexing agent (diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) 0.2- 0.5, and water - the balance. EFFECT: enabled reduction of mercury vapor concentration in room air to its permissible values. 2 cl, 1 tbl, 6 ex
