FIELD: metallurgy, possibly steel casting. SUBSTANCE: heat insulated insert includes heat insulation layer on base of vermiculite and working layer on base of refractory material. Heat insulation layer includes in addition 8.5-15.5% mass of quartz sand, the same quantity of refractory clay and the same quantity of diatomite. It enhances refractory properties of insert and prevents its warping. Heat insulation layer also includes 13-23% mass of liquid lignosulphonate for providing high strength of insert. Working layer includes 3-9% mass of expanded vermiculite. It allows to reduce its frangibility, to enhance cohesion with heat insulating layer and to increase resistance against impact loads. Thickness of working layer consists 0.3-0.4 of thickness value of heat insulated insert. EFFECT: improved design of insert allowing to enhance quality of ingots. 1 dwg 2 tbl
