Cocoon may be made from fabric 21 of aromatic polyamide and/or from additional layer of carbonaceous filaments 22, and/or woven ceramic filaments, or ceramic/ceramic glass woven composite filaments. Sole may include layers of woven filaments of aromatic polyamide and carbonaceous filaments and deflecting plate 23 for providing improved protection. Alternative version may include shoe enclosing cocoon and is formed as readily mountable device.
