FIELD: bimetallic article production. SUBSTANCE: blank of envelope of bimetallic article is in the form of cylindrical sleeve having wall and bottom. Blank includes starting portion in the form of hollow body of revolution with wall having variable thickness along its height, said portion is arranged between sleeve wall and its bottom. Base of large cross section of starting portion is joined with sleeve wall. Apparatus for making blanks includes die with cylindrical cavity and bottom and punch. Cavity of die has shaping portion arranged between cylindrical and bottom portions and being in the form of truncated cone whose large cross section base is joined with cylindrical portion. Such design allows to lower gas saturation degree of assembled blanks and to provide high quality contact of envelope with core.
