FIELD: measurement technology; measurement of pipe length. SUBSTANCE: front and rear ends of article are fixed at reference distance in the course of motion of article. Length of article exceeding reference distance is measured from moment of fixing front end till moment of fixing rear end. Measurement is made by at least two identical measurement channels and readings are periodically compared; maximum reading is determined and readings of all channels are set equal to this maximum magnitude. Total length of article is determined through summing up reference distance and length exceeding this distance. Errors are excluded in this method due to periodic correction of results of results of measurements and reliable contact between article and measuring instrument. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of measurement due to preliminary calibration by two reference articles of different length. 2 cl, 1 dwg
