FIELD: display engineering; alphanumeric and graphic displays. SUBSTANCE: vacuum fluorescent display has transparent vacuum envelope with anode board carrying phosphor-coated anodes with external leads that also accommodates cathodes with external leads and control electrodes with external leads; phosphor coating the anodes provides for more uniform fluorescence; anode board also carries additional anodes with external leads which are not coated with phosphor; some sections of additional anodes are placed under cathodes and other ones, between cathodes. Display is also provided with additional control electrodes in the form of thin conductors placed between cathodes and in parallel with them; additional control electrodes have external lead. More intensive use of cathode emissivity has enabled reducing number of cathodes. EFFECT: improved quality of information displayed; reduced power requirement for heating cathodes. 2 cl, 3 dwg
