FIELD: automotive industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to design of rear view mirror to be mounted on vehicle for providing rear and side view for driver and possibility of adjusting position of reflecting element from driver's seat when vehicle door is closed. Said external rear view mirror has casing accommodating reflecting element connected with its position adjustment drive, control element of which is brought inside vehicle body, support fixed on vehicle body, casing turning mechanism arranged between support and casing and furnished with operating force adjusting spring. Reflecting element is secured on casing for displacement relative to casing and is connected to casing through reflecting element position adjustment drive. Turning mechanism of casing is furnished with support plate with threaded bushing fixed on support and mounting plate fixed on casing, fitted on threaded bushing and spring-loaded relative to support plate by means of casing turning mechanism operating force adjusting spring. This spring is furnished with adjusting nut turned onto said threaded bushing. EFFECT: improved reliability of adjustment of position of reflecting element which does not depend on position of casing and prevention of vertical displacement of casing relative of vehicle body. 3 cl, 7 dwg
