FIELD: polymerization catalysts and processes. SUBSTANCE: support for olefin polymerization catalyst contains product of interaction of (A) solid inorganic oxide containing silica or alumina matrix and hydroxyl derivatives on the matrix surface functionated by a reactive silane, the latter being depicted by formula -OSiR₂H, in which R radicals independently denote hydrogen atom or C1-C20-hydrocarbon residue, whereas inorganic oxide contains less than 1.0 mmol/g hydroxyl groups on the surface; and (B) activator, namely ammonium salt of tris(pentafluorophenyl)-4-hydroxidephenyl borate, tris(pentafluorophenyl)-4'- hydroxyphenyl)phenyl borate, or tris(pentafluorophenyl)-(6-hydroxy-2-naphtyl) borate. Olefin polymerization catalyst is also described containing said support and IV-group metal containing at least one π-bonded cyclopentadienyl or substituted cyclopentadienyl anionic ligand group and a substituent capable of interacting with activator to form catalytically-active transition metal complex. Invention also describes polymerization process involving said catalyst.
