FIELD: mechanical engineering, manufacture of steel and pig iron parts and tools with hard chromium coat. SUBSTANCE: proposed process includes manufacture of specimens and test pieces, their chrome plating, annealing of specimens at various temperatures within interval of 200-300 C and of test pieces at temperature of 180-200 C, test of coat hardness of specimens, selection of optimum annealing temperature securing maximum growth of coat hardness with reference to its hardness on test pieces, annealing of parts and tools at optimum temperature. EFFECT: increased hardness and wear resistance of surfaces of chrome-plated parts and tools, their prolonged service life and decreased number of reconditioning repairs. 3 tbl
