FIELD: mechanical engineering, determination of mechanical properties of parts with electrolytic electroplated coating, predominantly with hard chromium facing. SUBSTANCE: procedure establishing cleavage strength of electroplated coat consists in manufacture of metal specimens-blank samples with electrolytic electroplated coating which is marked by series of scratches by loaded indentor. Transverse microsections are located on each specimen-blank sample, scratches are cut with the aid of diamond tetrahedral pyramid under certain load specified beforehand. Scratches are cut through entire thickness of transverse microsection perpendicular to plane of electroplated coat. Length of each scratch from metal of specimen to start of its abrupt expansion is established, averaged length of series of scratches and thickness of electroplated coat are found and cleavage strength is computed as averaged length of series of scratched shown in percentage of thickness of electroplated coat.
