FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the process of carbonylation to yield carboxylic acid. Method is performed by interaction of aliphatic alcohol containing n carbon atoms where n is from 1 to 10 and/or its reactive derivative with carbon monoxide in the first reactive zone under increased pressure and temperature in liquid reaction mixture to yield carboxylic acid. At least part of liquid reaction mixture is removed from the first reaction zone in combination with dissolved and/or carrying away carbon monoxide followed by feeding to the second reaction zone. At least 1% of dissolved and/or carrying away carbon monoxide interacts with a reaction mixture to be removed due to the following carbonylation at increased temperature and pressure in the second reactive zone that results to synthesis of additional amount of carboxylic acid. Method provides utilization of residual and/or carrying away carbon monoxide in liquid-phase carbonylation of aliphatic alcohol and/or its reactive derivative. EFFECT: improved and enhanced method of synthesis. 26 cl, 5 dwg, 2 tbl
