FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: method is performed by carbonylation of methanol and/or its reactive derivative with carbon monoxide in liquid reaction mixture. Reaction mixture comprises iridium as a catalyst of carbonylation reaction, methyl iodide cocatalyst, promoter taken among a group consisting of ruthenium, osmium, cadmium, rhenium, zinc, mercury, gallium, indium, tungsten and their mixture, water, methyl acetate and acetic acid. Liquid reaction mixture is removed from carbonylation reactor and fed to the zone of a single equilibrium evaporation with heat supply or without heat supply to obtain vapor and liquid fraction. Liquid fraction containing water, acetic acid, methyl acetate and methyl iodide is added in fractionating column for light fractions. Technological flow containing synthesized acetic acid is removed and fed to drying column. Vapors flow containing methyl acetate, methyl iodide and acetic acid is taken from the head of fractionating column followed by condensation and recovery of flow part in fractionating column and other part is fed in the carbonylation reactor. The constant water concentration in the reaction mixture is maintained by means of isolation and disposal water to waste from condensed vapors flow or methanol is changed in the stage of carbonylation with methyl acetate, dimethyl ester, acetic anhydride and their mixture.
