FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing acetic acid by carbonylation of methanol and/or its reactive derivative. Acetic acid is prepared by addition of carbon monoxide through regulating valve in continuous raw feeding, preferably under 10-100 atm and 100-300 C. Reactor contains liquid reaction mixture comprising at least 5 wt.-% of methyl acetate, from 0.1 to 30 wt.-% of water, 1-30 wt.- % of methyl iodide, precious metal of group VIII as a catalyst, optionally at least one promoting agent and acetic acid comprising remaining part of mixture. In carrying out the process carbon monoxide flow is dosed by regulating valve and the background measurement is carried out for preparing the time-mean volume rate for carbon monoxide flow with addition of constant value to the time-mean rate of carbon monoxide flow. As result, maximally admissible volume rate values of carbon monoxide flow are measured. Information containing the calculated maximally admissible volume rate of carbon monoxide flow is transferred to the operation system. The volume rate of carbon monoxide flow feeding into reactor in any time moment can't exceed this calculated maximal volume flow rate value. Invention provides the improvement of regulation schedule and consumption of carbon monoxide consumption to provide supporting its optimal amount in reaction wherein carbonylation reaction occurs.
