FIELD: atomizing equipment. SUBSTANCE: method involves atomizing a substance in gaseous medium by difference between medium pressure and pressure inside container with substance to be atomized; creating high pressure by providing expansion in free volume of gaseous powder, with source of gaseous powder being powder charge. Apparatus for carrying out method has gun for locating container with substance to be atomized and shooting off device for igniting powder charge. Apparatus is further provided with braking chamber equipped with end wall and peripheral openings. Replacement and metering of powder charge is facilitated by utilizing any standard powder cartridge. Shooting off device may include manual or automatic recharging mechanism. Apparatus is made light-weight and mobile, has reduced dimensions and requires simplified service. Method may be used for atomization of large amounts of liquids or powders in gaseous medium, preferably in air, for short periods of time, for example, for fire suppression.
