FIELD: measurement of supersonic wave velocity in rock pieces; oil producing industry; boring wells. SUBSTANCE: information on nature of rock seams in real time is obtained according to this method, thus making it possible to correct boring process. Supersonic waves are passed through rock for obtaining electrical signals which are displayed on oscillograph at resolution of at least 10-2 microseconds and measuring the time of wave propagation time. Supersonic waves generated by pulse oscillator at pulse duration of form 0.1 to 20 microseconds are passed through rock pieces formed during well boring at diameter of lesser than one centimeter and average radius more than 50 microns. Rock piece is placed between two piezo- electric transducers with connecting liquid between rock piece and transducers at viscosity of from 200 to 800 poises. Pulse duration may range from 0.1 to microseconds. Supersonic waves are compression or shear waves. EFFECT: extended capabilities. 6 cl, 1 tbl
