FIELD: initiation of nuclear reactions with the aid of generation of accelerated ions by a high-power laser of a subpicosecond duration. SUBSTANCE: ultrashort laser pulse is fixed on foil, produces plasma and, due to electrostatic and/or induction fields, accelerates the ions in the form of a forward-directed flux. This ion beam, bombarding a specially manufactured target, initiates nuclear reactions. The whole process takes place in a vacuum chamber at a pressure lower than millitors. EFFECT: produced a compact ion accelerator with a high flux density on the basis of a short-pulse laser for initiation of nuclear reactions with a high yield of reaction products. 4 cl, 3 ex
