FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of accelerating ions is based on generating ions from ionisable material from the backside of a target whose front surface is exposed to a high-contrast laser beam with relativistic intensity and ultra-short duration to pick up the beam of ions directed orthogonal to the back surface of the target and accelerating ions as they move to the receiver.
EFFECT: use of the invention enables to conduct research in the field of initiating nuclear synthesis reactions, for which there are no special radiation safety requirements.
