FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used at manufacturing or repairing of internal combustion engines. According to proposed method, cold running-in of engine is started at maximum speed checking simultaneously concentration of metal particles washed out by oil, and when preset value of concentration is obtained, speed is reduced to minimum value. After cold running-in of engine, fuel- feed device is set in position corresponding to 80% delivery of fuel, as compared with maximum delivery, and after picking up the speed corresponding to maximum torque, engine is located to compensate for increment of thickness of oil layer caused by working-in engine mating surfaces. Thickness of oil layer will change following mathematical dependences stated in invention claim. EFFECT: improved efficiency of running-in of internal combustion engines. 1 dwg
