FIELD: production of heat-insulating materials and articles on base of calcium silicates for manufacture of heat-insulated technological equipment for casting non- ferrous metals and high-temperature aluminum-based master alloys. SUBSTANCE: raw material mixture for production of heat-insulating material contains the following components, mass-%: slaked lime, 19.3 to 27.8; amorphous silicon- containing component, 25.7 to 37.2; arfvedsonite of dry concentration which is just mixture of loose long and short fibers at moisture content and content of fibers at length exceeding 12.7 mm 80 mass-%, 35/0 to 55/0. Proposed mixture possesses homogeneous structure and absence of admixtures excludes arising of centers of mechanical stresses and early cracks, thus making it possible to obtain material at enhanced mechanical strength and heat resistance. Service life of technological equipment made from material on base of proposed mixture increases by 2 to 2.5 times. EFFECT: improved physico- mechanical properties of heat-insulating material due to enhanced temperature stability, reduced hygroscopicity and enhanced thermal stability and mechanical strength of various articles made from this mixture. 2 tbl
