FIELD: petrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: shales are subjected to thermal destruction to form gas-vapor mixture, which is further subjected to catalytic treatment in fluidized or fixed catalyst bed. The latter is either (i) iron-containing acid-type contact, in particular iron polyphosphate (P2O5/Fe2O3 ratio 1/2) with xerogel structure, which is used in quantities of 20 to 80 % based on the weight of shales; or (ii) combination of two iron- containing contacts in amount of 40 wt %: 20% of contact (i) + 20% of industrial Al-Ni-Mo catalyst. Iron polyphosphate can be modified by cocatalysts: P2O5+Fe2O3+ΣMenOm (95%), where MenOm are oxides of Mo, Co, Ni, Cr, V, Cu, and process is conducted in this case at 500-600 C. EFFECT: improved quality of liquid products. 5 tbl, 15 ex
