FIELD: oxidation catalysts. SUBSTANCE: manganese-alumina catalyst is prepared using as starting material gibbsite thermal degradation product containing mixture of gamma-alumina 65-85% and chi-alumina 35-15%. Content of alumina-supported manganese component on conversion to manganese dioxide is 3 to 19 wt.%. Support can further contain modifying additives of magnesium, lanthanum, and cerium oxides or their mixtures. Catalyst can be used to treat industrial gas emissions and motor transport exhausted gases. Catalytic composition can also be used as secondary coating for shaped supports such as honeycomb-structure blocs, unitary multichannel slabs, or high-permeation cellular materials. EFFECT: increased heat resistance of catalyst at temperatures 1100 to 1300 C and prolonged catalyst life time. 5 cl, 4 tbl, 33 ex
