FIELD: inorganic chemistry, chemical technology, catalysts. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalysts and methods for preparing nitrous oxide (N2O) by oxidation of ammonia with oxygen or oxygen-containing gas. Invention describes catalyst and method for preparing nitrous oxide by oxidation of ammonia with oxygen or oxygen-containing gas including manganese-containing active component, iron oxide, alkali-earth metal oxide and aluminum oxide. Catalyst contains as an active component the composition representing mixed amorphous oxide phase of non-stoichiometric composition MnBixOy (0.05 ≤ x ≤ 2.24; 2.08 ≤ y ≤ 5.36) or mixture MnBixOy and manganese-containing crystalline phase. Process for preparing nitrous oxide by oxidation of ammonia with oxygen or oxygen-containing gas in the presence of manganese- containing catalyst of above indicated composition is carried out at temperature 250-450 C. Invention provides preparing active and selective with respect to nitrous oxide catalyst with reduced content of active component. Nitrous oxide is widely used in different branches of industry: in semiconductive, perfume, medicinal and food industry.
