FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalysts and methods for preparing nitrous oxide (N2O) by oxidation of ammonia with oxygen or oxygen- containing gas. Invention describes a catalyst and method for preparing nitrous oxide by oxidation of ammonia with oxygen or oxygen-containing gag that involves manganese- -containing active component applied on alumooxide carrier. Catalyst comprises the composition as an active component representing mixed amorphous oxide phase of the following non-stoichiometric composite: MnRxOy (0.05 ≤ x ≤ 2.24; 2.08 ≤ y ≤ 5.36) wherein R is bismuth and/or lanthanide, or mixture of amorphous phase of the composite: MnRxOy and crystalline manganese-containing phase. Invention relates also to the process for preparing nitrous oxide by oxidation of ammonia with oxygen or oxygen-containing gas that is carried out in the presence of manganese-containing catalyst of the above said composite at temperature 250-450 C. Invention provides preparing active catalyst showing selectivity with respect to nitrous oxide with reduced content of active component.
