FIELD: separation of magnetic and non-magnetic materials, such as ores, slags of electrometallurgical and nickel processes, wastes of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, etc. SUBSTANCE: separator includes non-magnetic drum mounted rotatably, magnetic system of permanent horse-shaped magnets located inside this drum; like poles of magnets are directed towards surface of drum; permanent magnets are tightly fitted on magnetic circuit at pitch of 0 to 4.5 mm; separator includes also ferromagnetic plates with pointed edges, feeder, magnetic and non-magnetic product receivers mounted under magnetic system. Ferromagnetic plates with pointed edges form adjustable working clearance between edges of plates and working surface of non-magnetic drum ranging from 0.1 to 6 mm. Magnetic system may be shifted relative to axis of drum for control of clearance between pointed edge and surface of non- magnetic drum. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of separation due to increased strength of magnetic field in working clearance and controllability of this clearance. 2 tbl, 3 dwg
