FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of isolation and purification of secondary butyl alcohol by rectification from liquid products of dehydration of tertiary butyl alcohol to isobutylene that can be used in petroleum chemistry. Dehydration reaction is carried out in reactor-rectifier of column type in the presence of ion-exchange catalyst placed in column and under pressure 0.01-0.02 MPa. Ion-exchange catalyst is placed usually in medium part of column and rectification is carried out usually in the presence of benzene at temperature on column upper part 70-75 C and those on column bottom part 95-100 C.
