FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing tertiary butyl alcohol - a semi-product in organic synthesis, and can be used in producing isobutylene and isoprene, used in production of butyl rubber and isoprene rubber. The method involves liquid-phase reaction of isobutylene or isobutylene-containing hydrocarbon mixture with water at high temperature in the presence of tertiary butyl alcohol as a solvent with forward feeding of the stream of initial reactants into a column reactor filled with a sulphocationite catalyst, with subsequent extraction of the end product from the obtained reaction mixture through fractionation. Isobutylene or isobutylene-containing hydrocarbon mixture containing 0.1-1.2 wt % isoprene is used.
EFFECT: method reduces output of by-products and increases the service life of the catalyst while maintaining efficiency of the process.
