FIELD: powder metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves purifying liquid iron pentacarbonyl; evaporating in evaporator and decomposing by heating in cylindrical reactor in the presence of ammonia supplied simultaneously with vapors of iron pentacarbonyl into upper throat of cylindrical reactor. Iron pentacarbonyl is evaporated at supplying rate of 41-45 l/hour, and ammonia is supplied in an amount of 25-28 l per 1 l of liquid iron pentacarbonyl. Decomposition is provided in reactor divided into heated zones. Temperature in said zones is maintained in the course of conveyance of iron pentacarbonyl vapor in the following manner: in upper zone 305-308 C, in intermediate zone 322-325 C, and in lower zone 280-290 C. Method allows carbonyl iron powder with reduced content of particle conglomerate (4% or less) and reduced content of bound nitrogen (0.6% or less) to be produced. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of carbonyl iron powder. 2 cl, 1 dwg, 2 ex
