FIELD: cleaning hydrocarbon liquids from mechanical impurities; automobile industry; automobile transport. SUBSTANCE: proposed filter element includes perforated tube and perforated shell with filtering tape made from dielectric material laid between them; filtering tape is provided with backing made from conducting material. One end of tape is connected with tube and is wound under the law of logarithmic spiral at seal increasing from shell to center of filter element. Such seal increases service life of filter element at preset quality of cleaning due to change of porosity of filtering tape ensuring gradual filtration of liquid from coarse particles over periphery to fine particles to center of filtration. Length of tape with backing is found from the following formula: , where rex and rin are external and internal radii of filter element, respectively, m; π is ratio of length of circle to diameter which is constant and is equal to 3.14; ψ0 is porosity of filtering material of filtering tape in not crimped state; ψmin is minimum required porosity of filtering material to ensure required quality of liquid being filtered; Δ is thickness of filtering material plate and δ is thickness of backing.
