FIELD: inorganic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydrometallurgy of alkaline metals, in part, to methods of production of lithium chloride. Method involves washing out chlorine-air mixture with desalted water containing a reducing agent based on amide or amine groups that results to conversion of definite chlorine amount to 2.5-3.5 N solution of hydrochloric acid. Alkaline lithium-containing absorbents are used for alkaline chlorine absorption in the presence of a reducing agent based on amide or amine groups also. The process is carried out by two-step countercurrent contact in foam layer at temperature 50-60 C in circulatory-flow regime of alkaline absorbent moving by steps.
