FIELD: oil production; applicable in control over length of long-body string, particularly, tubing pipes lowered into oil well in performance of well servicing. SUBSTANCE: method includes cyclic counting of number of revolution of measuring rollers connected with winch rope, taking readings from, at least, two measuring rollers in measurement and counting of number of measurement cycles In this case, taken into account in each cycle are readings of measuring roller which is the first to finish revolution. Measurement is begun in lowering into well of the first long body without taking into account its weight. Subsequent taking readings is performed with presence of weight on rope equaling weight of, at least, two long bodies connected in string and measurement of string length is effected with taking into account of string elongation under gravity. Use of invention makes it possible to exclude, in process of lowering of long bodies in well servicing, stage of preliminary manual (by reel) coarse measurement of length of each body on derrick platforms and total length of lowered string that takes 10- 20% of time needed for all operations involved in string lowering. EFFECT: provided measurement of length of long bodies interconnected with one another and lowered into well by rope winch provided with weigher and taking into account elongation of string under gravity, with exception of measurements in auxiliary and preparatory reversing motions of rope before lowering of long body into well. 2 dwg
