FIELD: methods of multi-stage decontamination of potable water by means of oxidants, ultra-violet radiation and introduction of chemical reagents; purification and decontamination of potable water. SUBSTANCE: method consists of three stages: at first stage 1-3 mg/l of hydrogen peroxide is introduced; at second stage water is passed through reactor at rate of 0.2-0.5 cu. m/h; said reactor is provided with pulse continuous spectrum xenon lamps mainly generation ultra-violet radiation at wave length of 200-400 nm, frequency of 1-1.3 Hz, specific power requirements of 1-3 kJ/cu.m and flux density of 1-3 kW/sq.m; at third stage 0.1-1.0% or solution which was prepared preliminarily in individual reservoir is added to water being treated by means of proportioner; gaseous ammonia or ammonia water is added to solution at continuous mixing till mass ration gets equal to 2.8-3.0; proportioning is continued till concentration of silver gets equal to 0.001-0.005 mg/l.
