FIELD: methods of multi-stage treatment of water by oxidation with the aid of hydrogen peroxide, ultra-violet radiation and ions of heavy metals, silver and copper in particular; decontamination of potable water. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes treatment of water by hydrogen peroxide followed by introducing ions of silver and copper obtained at dissolution of their salts; hydrogen peroxide is introduced in water in the amount of 1-3 mg/l, after which water is kept in this state for 0.4-2 h and then it is passed through reactor at rate of 0.1-0.5 cu.m/s; said reactor is provided with pulse xenon lamps of continuous spectrum mainly generating ultra-violet radiation at wave length of 200-400 nm, frequency of 1-1.3 Hz, specific power requirements of 1-3 kJ/cu.m and flux density of 1-3 kW/sq.m; then, water being treated is introduced into silver salt solution by means of at least one proportioning unit to obtain concentration of Ag+ ions in water of 0.001-0.005 mg/l, after which copper salt solution is added to obtain concentration of Cu2+ equal to 0.01-0.2 mg/l. EFFECT: simplified ecologically safe method; enhanced efficiency of decontamination at reduced amount of reagents; avoidance of secondary bacterial contamination during protracted period of time ( no less than month). 2 cl, 3 ex
