FIELD: water treatment. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for treating water via hydrogen peroxide oxidation in presence of heterogeneous catalyst containing manganese and silver compounds. It can be used in water-supply systems of towns and other inhabited localities. Hydrogen peroxide is introduced in two steps: first 85-95% of total amount of hydrogen peroxide is added to crude water placed in container and resulting mixture is kept for 0.25-1 h, after which remaining 5-15% of hydrogen peroxide is added, mixture is kept for 0.5-1 h, said catalyst being prepared by mixing powdered pyrolusite with particles of metallic silver no more than 0.05 mm in size at ratio pyrolusite to silver equal to (800-1500):1, followed by adding water to form paste, partially drying the latter at 100-110 C, and molding, for example, into tablets. Advantageously, total amount of hydrogen peroxide involved is 100 to 200 mg/l and indicated catalyst is used in amounts 0.2 to 1.5 mg/l. EFFECT: simplified process and prevented secondary bacterial infection of water for long time. 4 cl, 1 tbl, 2 ex
