FIELD: explosives. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of nitric acid esters used in manufacture of ballistite powders, industrial explosives, and liquid monofuels. Liquid nitric acid esters are prepared by nitration of ethanol in a small-reaction volume nitrator followed by cooling reaction mixture in flow cooler, separating nitro emulsion, and washing nitric acid ester. Nitration is conducted in two steps involving complete withdrawal of exhausted acid from the process and intermediate cooling of first-step nitration mixture. First-step nitrator receives 50-60% and second-step nitrator 50-40% of required amount of alcohol to be nitrated. Weight ratio of nitration mixture to alcohol is selected such as to exclude achievement of nitric acid ester decomposition temperature. EFFECT: expanded operation possibilities by reducing productivity according to existing needs and widened stock-list of nitric acid esters. 4 cl, 3 dwg, 1 tbl
