SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of nitrate ester, specifically to a method for producing n-butyl nitrate used as a cetane-enhancing additive for diesel fuel. The method is characterized by the fact that carbamide is first introduced into n-butanol in an amount of 0.5-1 wt.% of its mass, nitration is carried out in a disc nitrator, whereas the nitrating mixture comprises 60-65 wt.% sulfuric acid, 15-20 wt.% nitric acid, the rest is water, the ratio of the mass of the nitrating mixture to the mass of n-butanol is 15-20. After separation of the mixture, washing of n-butyl nitrate is carried out sequentially with water with a mass ratio of water:n-butyl nitrate equal to (1.0-1.5):1, 2-3% soda ash solution with a mass ratio of solution:n-butyl nitrate equal to (1.0-1.5):1, and then again with water with a mass ratio of water:n-butyl nitrate equal to (1.0-1.5):1.

EFFECT: increased stability of the n-butanol nitration process while minimizing the nitration time to almost instantaneous and no need to cool the reagents during the nitration process, while simultaneously using urea acid as a stabilizer without temperature deviations of the process from the prescribed values.
