FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method includes nitrating corresponding polyatomic aliphatic alcohols with sulphurous-nitrogenous mixtures. Nitration is carried out in a periodic-action reactor fitted with a jacket, a coil, a bottom siphon and a lower emergency drain, the method including successively feeding into said reactor, while stirring, solutions of concentrated sulphuric acid and nitric acid with total water content of not more than 10-15% and a mixture of neutral chlorocarbon solvents. The first of the solvents is a relatively low-boiling neutral chlorocarbon solvent (boiling point not higher than 60°C), and the second is a relatively high-boiling neutral chlorocarbon solvent (boiling point of 60-120°C). The compound to be nitrated then fed at a rate which provides a temperature not higher than 16°C.

EFFECT: safe method which enables to obtain polynitrates of polyatomic aliphatic alcohols with high output.
