WET SEAL FOR BUTT JOINTS Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

FIELD: construction industry, sealing of butt joints welded in process of erection of various objects, for example, metal columns. SUBSTANCE: this invention can also find use in other fields for protection against corrosion, for reduction of heat loss, for protection against corrosive agents penetrating into structure at point of protected butt joint. Proposed wet seal comes in the form of electric heater placed by insulated point on thermosoftening material. Electric heater is manufactured in the form of zigzag bent conductor formed by wire bent over part of its length in the form of periodic curve and having free lengths for connection of source of electric power. Step of zigzag bent conductor is equal to 2.5-3.5 diameter of wire with amplitude of 5.0-25.0 mm. Zigzag bent conductor is fixed in configuration given to it with the aid of thermosoftening plastic tape which thickness amounts to 1.1-1.8 diameter of wire. Zigzag bent conductor includes parallel sections arranged along and transverse to its longitudinal axis or zigzag bent conductor has sections arranged in parallel, oriented sidewise to its longitudinal axis and interconnected by arc-shaped sections. Thermosoftening plastic tape has two layers, as minimum, and zigzag bent conductor is fixed between its layers. Tape with fixed zigzag bent conductor can be imparted with required configuration corresponding to form of insulated butt joint, for example, form of ring, spiral or figure with sections of concave-convex outline. Wet seal for butt joints in this case is section of specified length obtained by cutting tape coil into measured sections with subsequent employment of ends of zigzag bent conductor as free lengths for connection of power supply source.
