SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of synthesis of fatty acids and sorbitan esters and/or their alkoxylated derivatives by interaction of fatty acid with sorbitol directly in the presence of catalytic system. Catalytic system involves phosphorus-containing hydroxyacid, among them, reducing hydroxyacid and strong base of alkaline or alkaline-earth metal. Molar ratio of acid to base = (0.9:1)-(1.7:1). Concentration of catalytic system is from 1.5 to 30 wt.% as measured for sorbitol. Method involves optionally interaction of synthesized esters with alkylene oxide.
