FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: cylinder liner is provided with at first and second groups of cavities open inwards which are made in form of elongated grooves arranged with interruptions over liner circumference. Cavities in groups are located in upper 15% of length of chord surface. Cavities in different groups are relatively separated in longitudinal direction of linear and are arranged at constant level in direction of linear circumference. According to other version, at least one groove passes over entire inner surface of liner and has height less than 3- % of minimum height of piston rings. Grooves have depth in liner radial direction exceeding half of their height in longitudinal direction of linear and are located in upper 15% of length of chord surface. EFFECT: prevention of jamming between piston rings and area of chord surface where contact pressure between rings and said surface is extremely high in operation. 17 cl, 6 dwg
