FIELD: manufacture of building materials. SUBSTANCE: liquid glass for refractory acid-resistant concretes, preparation of paints, etc. is obtained by preparing aqueous suspension of silicon- opal stock, e.g. microsilica or diatomite, followed by solid-phase treatment of suspension with alkali metal hydroxides. Heat treatment of reaction mixture is carried in absence of external heat supply using solid alkali metal hydroxide dissolution heat and heat provided by formation of alkali metal hydrosilicates at 96-100 C for 0.5-2 h until emission of gas bubbles ceases. Finished liquid glass is cooled at a cooling velocity 80-100oC/h. EFFECT: improved workability and quality of glass. 1 tbl
